French MoD Selects Airbus Fixed-Wing Drone for its Ships Our Bureau 1603

The French Direction générale de l armement (DGA) will buy 11 Aliaca electrically-powered fixed-wing UAS systems (22 aircraft) from Airbus’ subsidiary SURVEY Copter to equip Navy ships.
Aliaca is officially called SMDM / “Systèmes de Mini Drones aériens embarqués pour la Marine” by French authorities.
The contract includes training and integrated logistic support. First deliveries are expected in 2021.
The Aliaca maritime UAS allows up to 3 hours missions over a 50 km (27 Nm) rang; and is adapted to perform maritime missions with high gyro stabilized EO/IR payload performances and qualified to operate in severe environmental conditions. Launched by catapult, the Aliaca maritime UAS concludes its flight by landing automatically using a dedicated net landing solution. Augusta Due. It is alleged that the vessel collided with a fishing vessel resulting in the loss of three lives, according to maritime news provider
Tradewinds. The three men are being accused of procedural fraud. It is alleged that the ship had visibility of the fishing vessel before the incident and stayed on course after the collision had happened.
The last voyage of the 28-year-old Sea Princess has the crew terrified as they’re claiming that the vessel was haunted by a seaman who committed suicide just weeks ago. The twelve crew members are sailing from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, to the Alang shipwrecking yard in Gujarat, India, but on January 28th, an Indian seaman. Read more »
